Three folio manuscript volumes, all in the same hand, containing a translation of the French work 'La Perspective Pratique', written by 'un Religieux de la Compagnie de Jesus', a religious person of the Society of Jesus, identified as Jean Dubreuil, published in Paris between 1647-1651.
The first English translation of this work was published in London in 1672. The text of the published version differs from the text found in these volumes.
Lacks the many illustrations and delineations found in the printed editions.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
