- Title:
- War Publications [1914–1921]
- Scope & Content:
-
These publications are very valuable and rare. Most of them are printed in the middle of the war, on foreign territory, in hardly accessible machines, during the time when there was a shortage of printing paper, in low circulations (a part of the book circulation burnt in a fire in Thessaloniki), with the aim of informing soldiers and for strengthening their morale; also publications are printed on low quality fragile paper, often destroyed in war canals and by weather conditions. Few of these publications were brought to Serbia by the soldiers after the war and the books were spread all over the world which means that there are many publications unheard of. The Lazić library has one of the greatest collections of these publications as one of its owners, Luka Lazić, was a Serbian soldier in Corfu who collected this literature and brought it to Serbia when the war ended.
All materials in this series were acquired by Luka Lazić (1876–1946), the owner of the Library from 1910. Most of the materials were bought during the First World War in the battlefield or in the rear of it and the small number of them he would purchase after the war until 1946. For some copies there is information about the previous ownership, although for the majority of materials that information is not available (most of them were bought directly from publishers, authors and authorised bookdealers). Ownership after the death of Luka Lazić: his son Milorad Lazić (1946–1977), Milorad’s wife Danica Lazić (1977–1993), Milorad and Danica Lazić’s grandson, Viktor Lazić (1993 to present).
