Nigar the oldest and one of the most influential Urdu cultural and literary journals. Nigar was first published by Niaz Fatehpuri in February 1922 from Agra, India. In 1926 both Niaz and the periodical office moved to Bhopal, India Fifteen years after the creation of Pakistan, in 1962, Niaz moved to Karachi and lived there until his death on May 24, 1966. In February 1960 Niaz’s son Arif Niazi , who preceded his father in moving to Pakistan, began publishing a Pakistani edition of Nigar under the joint editorship of Dr. Farman Fatehpuri . From 1964 onwards the periodical was exclusively published from Karachi. All editorial responsibilities for Nigar were transferred to Farman in February 1966. Subsequent to Farman’s death in 2013, his son Syed Abrar Ali assumed the editorship of the journal. It appeared in different dimensions: 24.5*18 cm; 23*18 cm; 18.5*12.5 cm; 22*15 cm; 23*14.5 cm.
