Tufiq was a satirical Persian -language weekly published on Thursday evenings in Iran from 1923 to 1971. Its slogan was: "Compatriot! Don't forget to do two things on Thursday night : the second is to buy Tufiq magazine”. The first period of Tufiq’s publication was from 1923 to 1939 was under the management of Hossein Tufiq, till his death in 1939. Tufiq was a semi-funny and semi-serious publication, concentrating on literary and comic subjects and was published without interruption during this period. After Hossein Tufiq 's death, Tufiq began publishing again in 1940, under the management of his son, Muhammad Ali Tufiq, the second period of Tufiq continued until the coup d'etat of August 28, 1953 that overthrew the Musadiq government. In this period, Tufiq became politically critical, like most other newspapers, while maintaining its humorous and satirical delivery. Tufiq 's main theme was criticizing the performance of the prime ministers and giving them funny nicknames. Muhammad Ali Tufiq was sent in to internal exile and tufiq was banned in August 1953 for 4 years and 7 months. Tufiq 's policy in the 1970s was anti-colonial, Tufiq was included in the list of of left-leaning newspapers, which the government was trying to suppress. In 1958, Mohammad Ali Tufiq officially handed over the name of Tufiq newspaper and the copyright of its contents to Tufiq brothers Husayn and Abbas Tufiq, who were caricaturists, writers, poets. They declared "Tufiq is a national and independent newspaper that does not depend on any party, group or population" and is "the official organ of Hizb Kharan (The Asinine Party)" The publication continued under the severe pressure of censorship and with repeated arrests and forced closures until 1350 AD.
