Scope & Content:

These volumes contain copies of telegrams relating to all departments of the India Office received from and sent to India. Apart from the period 1859-1865 when separate in and out books were kept, inward and outward telegrams appear on facing pages, made up so that those which are related are directly opposite one another.

Many of these telegrams appear nowhere else in the India Office Records. After 1880 telegrams can be found in the various series of departmental correspondence.

Each volume contains an index. There is a gap in the series between January 1874 and February 1878.
