- The series consists of weekly official reports on Indian newspapers (i.e. Indian language newspapers and English language newspapers owned by Indians) arranged by Presidency and province. The reports, which are sometimes selections or notes, usually take the form of Indian press comment on aspects of British administration and contemporary political events.
There are certain distinguishing features in the style and form of the reports produced by the various governments. The Bombay series, for example, makes more use of direct (translated) quotations from newspaper articles. There are also occasional variations in the areas covered by particular provincial reports, especially in the case of the North-Western Provinces and Bombay.
