Partly typewritten and printed, partly autograph material with some photographs. Includes drafts of poetry and some juvenilia, many of which are dated; with some correspondence (includes letter from Frieda Hughes's husband, Laszlo Lukacs) and photographs (585ff. and 1 notebook). Some autograph drafts were originally contained in a ring binder with 'For Sylvia Xmas 1961 Accumulations' written on inside cover by Ted Hughes. Also includes drafts of prose both for children and adults. The children's literature is as follows - 'Uncle Yorick' (3 drafts with some Ted Hughes annotations, 198ff.); 'Getting Rid of Edna' (59ff and bookcover); ‘The Keeper Of The Keys’ (24ff.); 'Waldorf and the Sleeping Granny' (3 drafts, 266ff.); ‘The Chocolate Cockroach’ (9ff.); ‘The Electric Cat’ (12ff); ‘Strawberry Mouse’(8ff.); ‘Fish in a fur coat’ (10ff.); ‘Roof Rabbit’ (9ff.); ‘The Battery Chicken’ (19ff.); ‘Simon and the Melting Moon’ (8ff.); ‘Julie and the Land Giants’ (11ff.); ‘The Dust Bunny’ (22ff.); ‘The Purple Dinosaur’ (9ff.); ‘Smooth Newt and the Shades’ (15ff.). The adult prose consists of part of an untitled draft (14ff.); drafts of 'The Waxman' (499ff.); a short story 'Bushfire' (14ff.) and ‘A Bit of Australia’ (24ff.). Also contains photographs of illustrations created by Frieda Hughes (54 in total, with copies of illustrations (3ff.), a blank card and covering letters, 6ff.), which include a draft of ‘The Meal A Mile Long’ (29 photographs & 3ff.). Also press cuttings about Frieda Hughes; leaflets from exhibition she participated in; a travel itinerary; sketches and drawings of animals and a copy of London Magazine June/July 1997 (1 volume, 1 magazine & 17ff).
Add MS 88918/71-73 contain copies of poems including juvenilia with some letters sent from Frieda Hughes to her father and stepmother. Add MS 88918/74-78 contain drafts of children’s fiction and Add MS 88918/78 also contains ‘Bushfire’ and ‘A Bit of Australia’. Add MS 88918/79-80 contain drafts of ‘The Waxman’; and Add MS 88918/81 contains sketches and photographs of Frieda Hughes’s artwork along with some correspondence. Finally Add MS 88918/82 contains copies of press cuttings about Frieda Hughes and her work.
