- In 1833 the upper provinces of the Bengal Presidency, comprising the North Western Provinces, the Delhi Territory and Ajmer, were constituted into a new Presidency called the Presidency of Agra, under a full Governor. This arrangement was however reversed in 1836 when the territories were downgraded to a Lieutenant Governorship and placed under the Government of India. During the short period when it was a separate Presidency the Agra Government corresponded directly with the EIC Court of Directors in London.
