Scope & Content:

The majority of the items in this sub-series came to the India Office Library and Records from Government Department Libraries in London, principally those of the Foreign Office and War Office. The source of each work, where it has been established, is given in this list at the end of the relevant descriptive entry. Some items appear to have been held originally by the India Office, discarded during weeding and transferred to other Departmental Libraries, and subsequently returned to the IOLR. Other items listed include 'strays' from the India Office Political and Secret Department Library. A few of these which clearly belonged with the main alphabetical sequences of the PS Library (the 'A' Books, 'B' Books, etc) have been reassigned to their correct location.
