Membership of the Regular Widows' Fund was compulsory for established clerks, for those promoted from the Extra Establishment who were not already members of the Extra Fund, and for persons holding senior posts on a full-time basis. The Elders' Widows' Fund was compulsory for established Elders, doorkeepers, porters and warehousemen, and optional for non-established staff such as writers and extra clerks. The funds were closed to new subscribers c.1862. The general administrative records of the funds are in section L/AG/23/3A. The last pensioner from the funds died in March 1966.
