- User Conditions:
- Administrative Context:
- These were not family pension funds, but have been included in this section for convenience. Medical officers of the Bengal Army were eligible for annuities from the Bengal Medical Retiring Fund on condition of retirement immediately from the Army. The Indian Civil Service Provident Fund was the successor of the Bengal, Madras and Bombay Civil Annuity Funds formed in 1824, as a contributory fund from which ICS officers received pensions on retirement. The liability to contribute for the purpose of receiving pension ceased in 1920, and the new fund formed in the same year provided a lump sum on retirement or previous death, by compulsory contribution.
