- One of the original guaranteed railways. Formed in 1862. Originally called the Indian Branch Railway. Title changed in 1867 to the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway. Main line ran from Moghal Sarai (opposite Benares) north west through Oudh and Rohilkhand to Saharanpur, a distance of some 546 miles, with branches to Bahramghat, Cawnpore, Aligarh and Hardwar. From 1863 to 1872 it also managed the Nalhati Railway which ran between Nalhati and Azimganj in Murshidabad District, Bengal. The Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway was purchased by Government in 1889 and was thereafter worked as a state railway. It amalgamated with the East Indian Railway in 1925.
