Letters to Maeve Gilmore, some of which have been addressed to Mervyn Peake but have been answered by Maeve. Each file contains multiple letters from many of the listed correspondents. There are a small number of copy letters in Maeve Gilmore's hand; these are noted in the description where present. There are a few letters addressed to John Watney [Peake's biographer, Chairman of the Mervyn Peake Society and companion to Maeve Gilmore], including copies of letters he sent.

Subjects include: academic criticism; bibliographies of Peake's work; rights; publication; translation; biographies and memoirs of Peake; sale and ownership/custodianship of manuscripts, paintings and drawings; as well as personal, family, legal and financial matters.
