MSS Mus. 254-257. ARTHUR BENJAMIN COLLECTION. Vols. iv-vii. ‘Tartuffe’, opera in two acts and an epilogue to a libretto by Cedric Cliffe after the play by Molière; [1957-1965]. The short score, originally entitled ‘The Imposter’, was finished by Benjamin before his death, but only the start of the overture was completed in full score. The remainder was completed by Alan Boustead, who conducted the first performance at Sadler’s Wells, 30 Nov. 1964. See C. Cliffe, ‘Benjamin’s Tartuffe’, Musical Times, cv (1964), pp. 819–20.
