Title:

Althorp Papers. Vols. mcdxi-mcdxxxviii. Miscellaneous letters sent to Frederick Spencer; 1818-1857. Many are requests and petitions for charity or patronage. In the majority of cases they are endorsed with a note of response, e.g. 'neg' or 'no answer'. Where possible, undated material has been arranged at the end of the year’s sequence in which it was originally found; all other undated correspondence is arranged alphabetically at the end of this series. The correspondence indicates that Spencer retained his links with his friends and colleagues at the Admiralty after leaving the Navy; that he was also a supporter of railway development, regularly attended cattle sales, and was an informed collector of porcelain.
