Holroyd/Shaw Papers. Vols. cxiii, cxiv. Correspondence and papers relating to the selection of Michael Holroyd by the Society of Authors as the authorised biographer of Shaw and other matters relating to the copyrights of Shaw's work; 1969-2002. Michael Holroyd was appointed official biographer in 1970, with an agreement to produce a work to be published by the Bodley Head in 1976. This was subsequently re-negotiated. The collection includes correspondence of the Society of Authors and Michael Holroyd with Dan H. Laurence, the editor of Shaw's letters, and literary adviser to the Shaw estate, relating to his reservations on the appointment of Michael Holroyd as official biographer; many of these papers are copies of the in the archives of the Society of Authors. It also includes correspondence relating to other copyrights and publications of Shaw's works, but for papers and correspondence relating to the collaborative volume 'The Genius of Shaw', edited by Michael Holroyd and published in 1979 see Add. 85210, 85211, and for papers and correspondence relating to the biography published by Chatto and Windus, see Add. 85090-85114.
