Title:

Coleridge Family Papers. Vols. dxxxiii-dlxvi. Journals of Sir John Taylor Coleridge; 1814-1876. From 1 June 1814 until the end of his life, Coleridge maintained an unbroken series of journals in which he recorded his private and professional activities, with many reflections on his life and work and much information about his family, friends and colleagues. The journals also contain notes on his reading and a detailed record of his opinions on religion, literature and politics. Each year is closed with a searching self-examination of his own conduct, beliefs and qualities. Volume 12 is missing, as are several pages from volume 31, corresponding to periods when his son John Duke Coleridge (Volume 12) and grandson Bernard Coleridge (Volume 31) had badly misbehaved at Eton.
