'Negociation de Monsieur [Antoine Lefèvre] de la Boderie, Ambassadeur en Angleterre': official papers of his two embassies-(1) as Ambassador in Ordinary, Apr. 1606- July, 1609;-(2) as Ambassador Extraordinary on business relating chiefly to the Clèves and Juliers succession dispute, Jan. 1610-Jan. 1611. Four volumes. Another copy is in Add. MSS. 30642-30644. Printed in Ambassades de .M. de La Boderie, 5 vols., 1750. In the edition the dispatches are in one continuous series. In the MS. the first two volumes contain the letters from La Boderie to the King (after Henri IV's death to the Queen Regent), to the Secretaries of State (Nicolas de Neufville, Seigneur de Villeroy, and Pierre Brulart, Vicomte de Puisieux and to the Ambassador to the States-General (Pierre Jeannin, Président du Parlement de Bourgogne). Vols. iii, iv contain the dispatches sent to La Boderie. At the beginning of vol. 1 are the Ambassador's instructions (15 Apr. 1606, f. 3) and his preliminary discourses (not in the edition) to James I and Anne of Denmark (ff. 20, 22 b). At the end of vol. ii (f. 504) is an appendix of letters to ambassadors at other courts, and (f 529) a 'Jargon ou deschiffre et explication ' of proper names concealed in the dispatches. Another copy of the latter is prefixed to vol. iii (f. 4).
