LIVERPOOL PAPERS. Vols. CCXXXII-CCXXXVI. Papers relating to Mint and Coinage, including some official Mint documents, but chiefly consisting of correspondence and papers of the 1st and 2nd Earls of Liverpool on coinage and coinage matters; mid. 18th cent.-1823. Both Earls were members of the Privy Council Committee on Coinage. The 2nd Earl was also Master of the Mint (1799-1801), but despite statements to the contrary, the 1st Earl (to whom most of the papers relate) does not appear to have held that office (see Catalogue of the Museum of the Royal Mint, ii, 1910, p. 235). Among the correspondents (the names are given in the Index) are Samuel Garbett of Birmingham, Matthew Boulton of Soho near Birmingham, Sir Joseph Banks, P.R.S., and Abraham Robertson, Savilian Professor of Geometry the last of whom made calculations for the 1st Earl's Treatise on Coins. In 38422 (ff. 334-363) are a series of papers submitted to the lst Earl by [Charles Alexandre de] Calonne, French Minister of Finance, including one (f. 359) by [Marie Jean Antoine Nicolas Caritat, Marquis de] Condorcet. Five volumes. Folio.
