MEYERSTEIN BEQUEST. Vol. XVII-XIX. Letters, translations and music relating to the first performance of the oratorio 'Elijah' by Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy at the Birmingham Festival, 26 Aug. 1846, and its subsequent revision and publication. Mostly in the hand of William Bartholomew, the English translator of the words, but including eleven autograph letters of Mendelssohn (Add. MS. 47859 A, ff. 1- 17b). The collection belonged to Frederick George Edwards, who acquired it (cf. Add. MS. 41572, ff. 29, 29b, 55-59b) from Miss Elizabeth Mounsey, sister-in-law of William Bartholomew, in 1892-1893, and used it for The History of ... 'Elijah', 1896. Puttick and Simpson sale-cat., 18 Apr. 1910, lots 227-230, 231, 233; Maggs Bros. cats., nos. 586 (1933), item 667, 601 (1934), item 892. 'R.29' (Add. MS. 47859 B, f. iii). Three volumes.
