A play based on the problems faced by Wilhelm Furtwängler during the period of Nazi rule in Germany and his treatment after the war. First performed, Minerva Theatre, Chichester, on 15 May 1985, and in Polish at Teatrum Juliusza Slowackiego, Krakov, on 18 May 1995, and at the Criterion Theatre, London, on 3 July 1995. Published in Harwood's Plays 2 (Faber and Faber, 1991) and in a revised form by Faber and Faber, 1995.
