Notebooks containing copies or summaries of letters from 1st Lord Holland to William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire; 1745 - 1762. The letters were copied in 1816 in the hands of Henry, 3rd Lord Holland, his wife, and sister Caroline, from originals owned by the Duke of Devonshire. Also included are related notes by Lord Holland and extracts from a few letters from other individuals addressed to 4th Duke of Devonshire. Complementary to Add MSS 51381, 51382. Several letters were printed, in whole or in part, by 3rd Lord Holland in his editions of Memoirs from 1754 to 1758, by James, Earl Waldegrave, 1821, and Memoirs of the reign of King George the Second, by Horace Walpole, 1822. Fair copies of some of the letters, 12 Feb-9 Nov 1762, made for 3rd Lord Holland, are in Add MS 51921, ff. 91-105.
