Consists of register volumes which record dispatches sent and received by George Canning, to and from British diplomats to various countries or states, during Canning’s first term as British Foreign Secretary, from 25 March 1807 to 11 October 1809. Some of the registers also include dispatches sent to the previous Foreign Secretary Viscount Howick [Charles Grey, later the second Earl Grey], before Canning became Foreign Secretary. The register entries for the dispatches sent to the diplomats usually include draft copies of the dispatches, whereas the entries for the dispatches received from the diplomats usually include summaries of the content of the dispatches.

The volumes record dispatches to and from British diplomats to the following countries or states (the names of the countries or states used in the titles are those which appear on the spines of the volumes):
