Thespis was the first collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan, first performed at the Gaiety Theatre, London, from 26 December 1871 to 8 March 1872 (64 performances).
No complete musical score was ever published and most of the music has been lost, except for a ballad ('Little maid of Arcadee', the only number to be contemporaneously published); a chorus ('Climbing over rocky mountain', later reused in The Pirates of Penzance); and the ballet music, a copyists manuscript of which was in part discovered among material for Sullivan's ballet L'Ile Enchantée in 1990.
The three files here comprise the surviving ballet music (in a late-20th century hand); and two 20th-century versions of Thespis by Michael Sean Stone (1983) and Quade Winter (1990).
