Correspondence and papers of D. M. Thomas concerning general business matters: contracts, programmes of visits and regional tours, grants, the appearance of poems in collections and textbooks, copyright and media transmission of his work, Arts Council initiatives, readings, literary awards and grants, and concerns about the taxation of artistic grants.
Correspondents include the British Council, the South African Broadcasting Corporation, Tatyana Stoicheva, Treasury Chambers (and Colin Shepherd MP, regarding the taxation of artistic grants), the British Broadcasting Corporation, the Arts Council of Great Britain, Michael Longley of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Sue Harries of the Welsh Arts Council, the Eastern Arts Association, West Midlands Arts, Oxford University Press (Australia), the University of Exeter. Peter Redgrove. With one copy of 'Security Advice about Visits to Communist Countries' (H.M. Government, 1977), and details of the British Council's 'Programme of Educationa, Cultural and Scientific Cooperation between Britain and Bulgaria, 1983-1985'.
With reference to a dispute between Thomas and the Inland Revenue regarding a grant from the Arts Council of Great Britain, and material relating to a trip to Bulgaria organised by the British Council.
The contents of this sub-series were originally held in a folder labelled 'business (authorship) correspondence'.with the words 'P. of A. copy' and 'Donor' crossed out) There was also an older title, 'Anthologies', 'Arts' and 'British Council'.' and the circled number '19'.
