There are two surviving files in the ‘Arms and Ammunition’ subject category. The earlier file relates to a search for concealed firearms in Dubai by British forces in 1910 and the civil disturbance this caused. The later file contains a series of monthly administrative reports 1929-1931, compiled by the British Political Resident in the Persian Gulf and summarising the latest news and developments in the Arab Gulf States. The reports include news about armed fighting and the supply of arms, as well as other topics.

The two files are arranged chronologically and by confidential file number. This is because the later file (B 29) does not have an A series number. The reference number ‘B 29’ appears in square brackets in the Title Field of the catalogue record for the later file, to indicate that its current place in the numerical subject category ‘9 - Arms and Ammunition’ is contrived. In the confidential series, the letter ‘B’ represents the much wider subject category ‘Arab Coast and Islands, Slavery and Oil’, which reflects more accurately the broader content of the later file.
