- The confidential subject series, entitled Travellers and Tourists, comprises files pertaining to the visits of a variety of travellers and dignitaries – both British and foreign – to the Gulf region, or to specific places along the Arab coast of the Gulf, usually Bahrain. Most of the files are dedicated to individual travellers or small groups of travellers, either passing through the Gulf along the air route between Basra and Karachi, which stops off en route at Bahrain, or in the Gulf for the purposes of educational visits, personal research, or pursuing business ventures. The subject series also includes files relating to the visit to Bahrain and Sharjah of the Viceroy and Governor-General of India in 1934 (IOR/R/15/2/590) and the visit to Bahrain of the Saudi Amir Sa‘ūd bin ‘Abd al-‘Azīz Āl Sa‘ūd in 1937 (IOR/R/15/2/594).
