The Arms and Ammunition subject files contain correspondence and papers relating to arms control, and incidents of arms theft or arms smuggling, occurring at Bahrain and elsewhere along the Arab coast of the Persian Gulf:

• arms licenses for the nakhudas of boats sailing on the Arab coast of the Gulf, and letters sent by the Political Agent at Bahrain to the region’s rulers, reminding them of their obligations in respect of existing arms treaties and agreements (IOR/R/15/2/896);
• reports of arms smuggling around the Arabian Peninsula, chiefly from the Arab coast to the Iranian coast of the Persian Gulf, and specifically from Dubai to Bandar-e Lengeh; also reports of instances of the theft of arms and ammunition (IOR/R/15/2/897);
• investigations into the theft of ammunition belonging to the Government of Bahrain, and subsequent investigations into the case, and the Government of Bahrain’s use, storage, and security of its ammunition (IOR/R/15/2/898).
