The four surviving Claims files contain correspondence, witness statements and other related documents. The first and second files concern the investigation and prosecution of criminal and civil offences in Kuwait, falling within the jurisdiction of the British Political Agent for Kuwait. In most of the offence cases discussed, the plaintiff or defendant is usually a British subject or British protected person, foreign resident or visitor to Kuwait, or the local representative of an overseas claimant, such as a merchant in India. The third file contains papers relating to one case: the deportation of a merchant from Kuwait. The last file is related to the role of the Political Agent as registrar for his district, and contains case papers relating to two deaths. The first case concerns the registration of the death and the disposal of the personal property of a Portuguese Goan employed at the Political Agency in Kuwait. The second case concerns the grant of probate to a subject of Kuwait with respect to the administration of his deceased father’s estate in Bahrain.
