- Title:
- File 10: Ibn Sa'ud
- Scope & Content:
-
The Ibn Sa'ud sub-sub-series consists of files related to the British Government's relationship with Ibn Sa'ud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd] and his rise to dominance in the region during this period.
The files in the sub-sub-series cover the following in detail: Ibn Sa'ud's early military and political successes at the beginning of the twentieth century including his conflict with the Al Rashid of Ha'il, his relationship with the Ottoman Empire, Kuwait, Iraq and various tribal forces, his conquest of the Hejaz (1924-25), growing tensions between him and the Ikhwan concerning the nature of his rule and policies, and the conflict with them that grew out of these tensions, the Ikhwan Revolt (1927-30).
Alongside internal correspondence between British officials in Kuwait, Jeddah, Bahrain, India and London, the files contain a large number of letters in Arabic (most accompanied by translations in English) that were exchanged between British officials and regional figures including Ibn Sa'ud and the Ruler of Kuwait, Shaikh Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
The file contains a rough sketch of the Battle of Injair that took place in October 1929 as a part of the aforementioned Ikhwan Revolt (IOR/R/15/5/33, f 88).
