The sub-sub-series file XXXIII: Affairs of Muscat Ruling Family consists of three files and three volumes; these are files XXXIII/1, XXXIII/4, and XXXIII/11A, and volumes XXXIII/11B, XXXIII/11B- Vol II, and XXXIII/12. These files and volumes are mostly in the form of letters and reports related to the abdication of the Sultan of Muscat and Oman. The main issues discussed in this sub-sub series’ correspondence were the following:
- the succession to the Sultan of Muscat, Turki bin Said al-Bu Sa‘idi and whether to recognise his son Faisal as his successor or not
- the political climate in Muscat and its relations with the Omani tribes
- the proposal of Faisal bin Turki bin Said al-Bu Sa‘idi to abdicate in favour of his son Taimur bin Faisal al-Bu Sa‘idi
- Taimur bin Faisal’s residence in Dehra Dun, India and the length of his stay in Muscat and India each year
- the financial status in Muscat and its reflection on the Sultan’s monthly personal allowance
- the education of Sa‘id bin Taimur bin Faisal
- the establishment of the Council of Ministers in Muscat in 1920
- the appointment of Sa'id bin Taimur as the president of the Council of Ministers in 1929
- the appointment of a new financial advisor to the Sultan instead of Bertram Thomas
- the financial consequences of the abdication of Taimur bin Faisal
- reports on Sa‘id bin Taimur bin Faisal’s illness in 1931
- the recognition of Sa'id bin Taimur bin Faisal as the Sultan’s successor, and the reaction of members of the Muscat ruling family to the news
The majority of the correspondence is between the Political Agency in Muscat, the Political Residency in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, the Government of India in the Foreign Department, New Delhi and the Sultan of Muscat and Oman.
