The Foreign Interests sub-sub-series contains files related to the interests and activities of foreign states in the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman and the wider Gulf region.

The files relate to the United States of America (IOR/R/15/6/145-147,174,179), France (IOR/R/15/6/148-151), Germany (IOR/R/15/6/152), Persia [Iran] (IOR/R/15/6/153-160), the Soviet Union (IOR/R/15/6/161-162), Saudi Arabia (IOR/R/15/6/163-170), Yemen (IOR/R/15/6/171), Italy (IOR/R/15/6/172-173), Iraq (IOR/R/15/6/175), Pakistan (IOR/R/15/6/180) and India (IOR/R/15/6/181).

The correspondence concerns a number of topics including diplomatic representation, shipping, borders, aviation and official visits. The majority of the correspondence in the files is internal correspondence between British officials in the region, London and India. The files also contain a limited amount of correspondence between British officials and local figures and some of this correspondence is in Arabic (usually with English translations).
