- Scope & Content:
- A private Monthly Army List appeared between 1798 and 1808. It was succeeded in January 1809 by a new Monthly Army List published with official sanction, which was made an official publication in 1854. The title was The Army List for [month, year] until August 1881, when it was changed to The Monthly Army List for [month, year]. Quarterly indexes (Jan, Apr, Oct) appeared from April 1868 to October 1873, replaced by monthly indexes from February 1874, and a separate quarterly Retired List with its own index appeared from October 1881 to October 1897. Between May 1915 and April 1917 a separate monthly supplement of promotions, appointments and casualties was issued, becoming quarterly from July 1917 to April 1920. A separate half-yearly (Jun, Dec) supplement of the Reserve and Territorial Forces, rewards, undisposed balances etc. was issued between December 1923 and December 1938. The Lists for May 1880, December 1897 and January 1898 have not been issued.
