- Subject files on establishment matters extending from about 1920 to 1947, but some papers outside that period are included. A series of great value on all matters relating to individuals, grades, special posts and conditions of service, insofar as they were applied in the India Office, and with particular reference to the period prior to 1 Apr 1937, when the full Treasury control of expenditure at the India Office commenced. For the later period, they contain copies of Treasury circulars and instructions, of value in connection with civil service conditions during the 1939-45 War. Most of the files are not yet available to readers and for that reason, a list of subjects is not included in this catalogue, but has been placed in L/AG/29/3/36.
