Title:: CORRESPONDENCE and papers, political and private, of Major Richard Phelps, Secretary to the Embassy at Turin, and Under- Secretary of State for the Northern Department; 17 Febr. 1744/5- 16 Febr. 1768. Prefixed are originals and copies of state despatches supplied for his use on entering office, 22 June, 1725-26 Sept. 1757. Phelps's official letters are rough drafts made for the Secretary of State, John Montagu, 4^th Earl of Sandwich, who has in many instances added to, or even rewritten, the draft in his own hand.
