Raine Papers. Vols. xx-xxi Letters from Tom Scott, poet; 1954-1993, n.d. Discusses his own work and that of other writers, the political situation in Scotland and, to a lesser extent, the wider world, the state of Scottish poetry and academia, the role of the poet in society, grant applications, socialism and religion. Includes the following poems by Scott: 'The Mankind Citie' later 'Human City' (three versions, accompanying the letter of 4 March 1956, the third dedicated to Shirley Bridges), 'Morningside Cemetery: Burial of Stuart MacGregor (following the letter of 10 July 1969), 'The Swan and Leda, as befell' (accompanying the letter of 25 May 1971), 'Human Knowledge' (following the letter of 22 June 1973), an excerpt from the 9th lay of 'The Tree' or 'The Pilgrimage' (accompanying the letter of 11 Sept. 1974), 'The Fable' (following the letter of 27 Jan. 1985) 'I see the makaris amang the laif…' and 'Playis here there padyanesyne gois to graif' (following the letter of 5 July 1988). Among the undated letters at the end of the volume are,'Talent and Power', 'Views from Myeloma' (two versions). The letter of 10 March 1955 contains a translation of Dante's Inferno 24 in a Scottish dialect. Also includes photographs of Scott and his family at the end.
