TRUMBULL PAPERS. Vols. CCLXXIX-CCCI. General correspondence of Sir William Trumbull; 1656-1832. Partly French. Including incoming letters for all his periods of office. This consists chiefly of the correspondence formerly in the bound 'Miscellaneous' sequence (XXII-XXXIII), with the order corrected where necessary. However the newsletters have been removed to the separate category, Add. 72595-72601 below, and some items, including draft letters of Trumbull, found in the Additional bundles have been added in. The letters are filed according to the Old Style (Gregorian) calendar, current in England until the mid 18th century. Letters dated according to the New Style current elsewhere, are therefore filed according to their Old Style equivalents. Where it is not certain whether the date used is Old or New Style, as in the case of some letters from English officials abroad, these are filed according to the date as it appears, i.e. as if it were Old Style, although further investigation might show otherwise. Many are calendared and indexed in HMC Downshire, I, pts i and ii. The letter of 22 March 1687 from John Nevell was purchased separately from J. L. M. Gulley, Sept. 1994.
