TRUMBULL PAPERS. Vol. CCCXLVIII-CCCLI. Letterbooks of Sir William Trumbull during his embassy in Constantinople; 1687-1692. Copies mostly in clerical hands, with a few by Trumbull, of letters dispatched. Each volume has contemporary pagination and a brief index by Trumbull of persons, places and occasionally subjects. 72589 contains at the front a list by Trumbull of books and prices. At the end, reversed, is a formulary of documents issuing under the Privy Seal entitled 'The Formes of such Businesses as belong to the Office of the Privy Seale according to the Collections of the usuall precedents'. At the end of 72590, reversed, are copies, mostly of letters, memorials, etc., sent by Lord Preston during his embassy to Paris (1682-1685) from Dec. 1682-Nov. 1683. At the end of 72591, reversed, are copies of letters sent by Preston from Paris, May 1682-Dec. 1684, some in Trumbull's hand, chiefly to the Duke of York and other correspondents in England; for further items from his embassy acquired by Trumbull, see Add. 72481 and 72546 above and British Library Microfilm 688. Each volume bears an annotation on the front in Trumbull's hand (except the last, in another hand) and on the spine, with the covering date of the volume and serial numeration. Some loose inserts in these volumes are now included in Add. 72553 above. Formerly Add. 94.
