Since most of the peers acted and Lord Lieutenant and Custos Rotulorum for their county much of the correspondence is related to these more local affairs e.g. visits by Spencer to their area, appointment of officials such as district magistrates, local elections, requests for patronage, law and order etc. References to national politics are more limited.
