HARDWICKE PAPERS. Vols. VI.-X. Correspondence of Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke, with his son Sir Joseph Yorke, K.B., successively Aide-de-Camp to the Duke of Cumberland, Minister at Paris, and Minister at the Hague, created K.B. (1761) and Baron Dover (1788); 1742-1764. Five volumes. Vol. I. contains Joseph Yorke's letters written during the campaigns of 1744-1747 in Flanders and 1745-6 in northern England and Scotland, including descriptions of the battles of Fontenoy (ff. 104, 106), Culloden (f. 218) and Val (f. 279). Vol. II. relates to his embassy to Paris, and Vols. III.-V. to that to the Hague, including a description of a special mission to the camp of the King of Prussia (Vol. IV. f. 261). Vols. IV. and V. give much information as to military operations in the Seven Years' War. A letter from Lord Hardwicke (Vol. IV. f 66) contains a detailed narrative of the ministerial negotiations in 1756.
