General Post Office Papers, comprising the correspondence and papers of Charles Philip Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke, as Postmaster-General, with a few papers of his predecessor, Ulick de Burgh, 1st Marquis of Clanricarde; 1852,1853. The contents consist chiefly of letters and memorials on behalf of applicants for appointment or promotion in the Post Office. Besides these there are a few letters requesting the establishment of new branch post-offices; complaints of the delay of mails or of missing letters; papers relating to a convention between the British and the Portuguese Post-Offices; and statistics by Rowland Hill for the establishment of a penny Newspaper Post.
