Draft 'Contents' and contributions to the anthology arranged in the sequence of the draft 'Contents'. Most contributions are in typescript format, some as page proofs from other publications, with one poem in manuscript (J F Hendry, 'London Before Invasion, 1940').
In the main, the contributions reflect the published edition, with the following exceptions:
- only one of George Barker's 'Six Sonnets from America' is present ('When the mask...');
- only one poem by Brenda Chamberlain is present ('Christmas Eve by the Baltic');
- first sheet of 'The emptiness is wide where the sea...' by Stephen Coates is missing;
- only 'Epitaph' by Lawrence Durrell is present (four further published poems are not present);
- 'Sonnet' and 'The Bofors A A Gun' by Gavin Ewart are not present;
- 'To My Wife' by James Forsyth is not present;
- 'A Letter to Anne Ridler' by G S Fraser is not present;
- 'Miserere' and 'A Wartime Dawn' by David Gascoyne are not present;
- 'Advice for A Journey' by Sidney Keyes, present in the file, was published but is not listed in the 'Contents';
- only 'Postscript: for Gweno' by Alun Lewis is present (but Lewis's seven other poems are not present);
- 'Lines written in an Air Raid' by Francis Scarfe is listed in the 'Contents' but is not present - in its place, 'Sunday Leave' (as published);
- 'Sea-dirge' and 'Poem in Time of Search' by Tom Scott, which both appear in the published edition, are not listed in the 'Contents' nor present;
- and 'Aubade' by William Empson, which appears in the published edition, is not listed in the 'Contents' nor present.
Additionally, on the verso of Mervyn Peake, 'Had Each a Voice what would His Fingers Cry', is a pencil sketch by Peake (without signature) of Tambimuttu.
