Consists mainly of a correspondence between Glenbervie and George Arbuthnot, deputy to his brother Robert Arbuthnot in the Ceylon Civil Service and later a partner in the Madras firm of Francis Lautour & Co. He describes North's measures as Governor, including retrenchments in the civil service ordered by Lord Hobart, and North's efforts to root out abuses, including false musters. He writes also about the Kandyan War, the government in Madras and the Mahratta War.
