- Title:
- Accounts of the wreck of the Company's ship Dartmouth (Capt. Roger Carter) near Covelong in November 1721. The Company's ship King George was also believed wrecked at the time but was later discovered to have survived.
- Scope & Content:
- With correspondence between the Council, Fort St. George, and Capts. Edward Elliston and William Crossing, &c., who were sent to take charge of the wreckage; pp. 111-20, Lieut, Alexander Sutherland and Ensign John Lauder, after a brisk fight with Dimdar Caun, killing him and 20 of his men, exclusive of many burnt to death, rescue some of the goods 19th Dec. 1721. According to ancient Indian custom, all wrecks became the property of the local sovereign.
