Anwaruddin Khan, Governor of the Carnatic, was killed in battle on 23rd July 1749; probably the seal was used by his son Muhammad Ali, who is often referred to under the title of Anwar-uddin Khan. (19) pp. 24-5, Grant of a Mansab of 2,000 horse to Charles Floyer, Governor of Fort St. David, by Anaverdy Cawn 18th Oct. 1750. (20) pp. 25-8, Agreement between Thomas Saunders, Governor of Fort St. David, and Pratap Sing, King of Tanjore, 1st Jan. 1755, surrendering to the English the town of Divicottah, granting concessions of Trade and arranging the King's tribute, in return for the Company's protection.
