- (1) pp. 1-23, Translation of the Farman of Farrukhsiyar in favour of the English granted in compliance with the petition of John Surman, Coja Surhaud and Edward Stevenson or Stephenson 5th Jan. 1716/7 with 28 Husbulhookums to Mughal's officers throughout the country ordering its observance. Translated by Paupa Braminy, Linguist to the Governor of Madras. See however C. R. Wilson's Early Annals of the English in Bengal, Vol. II, Pt. II, pp. 162-9, where three Farmans are given: (1) for Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, (2) for Hyderabad, and (3) for Ahmadabad. This copy of the Farman is only a summary of the Farmans as given by Wilson, but Wilson on the other hand does not give any of the 28 Husbulhookums. (2) pp. 24-6, A list of old Madras Farmans which are missing, as delivered by Paupa Brahminy, the former Translator at that place, as follows:--Rajah Sasanum or Royal License, cut upon a gold leaf, from Srinanga Royalloo granting the town of Chinapatam to the English; Farman or Grant for the town of Triplicane by Sultan Abul Hassan, King of Golcondah, to the Company's Vakil, with certain Husbulhookums and Parwanas; Sanad or Grant for Egmore, Persawauka and Tandore given by Zulfikar Khan to Thomas Pitt for Chinapatam; A similar grant from Nabob Mardan Subah of the Province; A Sanad for coining Rupees, Pagodas and Gold Mohurs from Zulfikar Khan; A similar Parwana from Ally Mardan; Parwana from Subder Ally Cawn, Deputy Nabob, exempting the English from payment of all Duties, &c.; Cowle from Phutta Sing and Raghojee Bosala, Maratha Generals, promising not to molest the English Settlements 1741; Grant by Subder Ally Cawn to Governor Richard Benyon of Ernavore and other villages; A similar Sanad from the Nabob Nausir Jung.
