The Raja was deposed by the Madras Government in 1773 and restored to his throne in 1776 by orders from England (see George Rous' Restoration of the King of Tanjore considered and Appendix 1777). (3) pp. 45-95, Sir John Dalling (Commander-in-Chief, Madras) to Lord Sydney (one of his Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State) 13th June 1785, Proposed reform of the military arrangements in Madras (? Original). (4) pp. 97-102, Hints on our connexion with Travancore 1762-84; pp. 103-6, Extracts from Bombay Letter to Court 23rd March 1784 and Court's Letter to Bombay 8th July 1785 relating to Travancore. (5) pp. 109-15, Memorandum by Mr. [Henry] Dundas from the Papers relative to the War in India (i.e. the War with Tipu Sultan after his invasion of Travancore in 1790).
