Notebook containing extensive autograph drafts of verse, original and in translation, with some notes on various subjects, in ink and pencil, heavily corrected, cancelled and revised; n.d. but mostly in Burton's earlier hand, with those on the first and last leaves in a smaller and later hand. Signed, 'RBurton' and 'Private' on the fly-leaf. Including poems in various different styles, mostly apparently unpublished, those which can be identified including 'Shireen' and 'The Fair Southern Seas'. A number of leaves have been excised, with writing remaining on the stubs.
