1. ff. 1-103. Autograph draft in pencil by Burton, inscribed by him on the outer wrapper, 'Bayrut' and on the inner wrapper, 'Hebron (El Kahlil) and the Cave Tombs of the Patriarchs'. Folios have numeration by Burton; insertions include (pasted on the verso of 55 [f. 58v]) a plan, with key, of the mosque at Hebron, by Burton and Charles Tyrwhitt Drake, dated 1871, and additions to the text on different sizes of paper, including a printed leaf with autograph additions. Apparently unpublished, though some annotations in ink in the earlier part suggest marking up for the press.
2. ff. 104-118. Miscellaneous autograph notes and drafts on various sizes of paper and subjects, including Syria (with a reference to Charles Tyrwhitt Drake, and Africa).
3. ff. 119-159. Autograph draft, entitled by Burton on the wrapper, 'Appendix 5/Affair at Nazareth', containing a detailed account of the period, 4 May- 5 Aug. 1871, when the Burtons and Tyrwhitt Drake were camped near Nazareth. Stitched in paper wrappers.
