The volumes contain papers relating to the East India Company’s factory at Mocha.
The papers include letters, mainly the following: letters from the Mocha Factory to the East India Company’s Court of Directors; copies of letters from the Mocha Factory to the Bombay Factory, to which the Mocha Factory was subordinate; and copies of letters from the Bombay Factory to the Mocha Factory.
The papers also include accounts, such as monthly Steward’s accounts of expenditure, and accounts of Factory charges. Other documents include: lists of the covenanted servants, menial servants and soldiers of the Factory, and their respective salaries; and lists of ships which had arrived at, and which had departed from, Mocha.
The papers were sent by ship to the Court of Directors in London, and most of the papers are endorsed with the title of the document, the number of the document, the name of the ship it was received by, and the date it was received by the Court of Directors.
